Composition #1: Get Down to Subject's Level

Our first composition rule in photo journalism is getting down to a subject's level when taking a picture. In order to do this you must hold your camera at the subject's eye level to capture a more personal photo (i.e. capture the true essence of the photo). You don't have to look directly into the camera and sometimes in order to take the perfect picture you might have to be willing to get dirty (lay on the floor etc.). Eye leveled pictures makes the image more inviting, intimate, sharper, and creates a better background. For example, the picture on the top is a bad example: you can't really see the main focus of the picture and the background is not very flattering. Yet, the example of a good picture below the first one shows the true focus and makes the picture more magical. :)
